February, March, and April Drama Reviews 2023

Strangers Again

This drama is about Oh Ha-Ra (Kang So-Ra) who is a divorce lawyer but is also divorced herself. Her ex-husband Ku Eun-Beom (Jang Seung-Jo) wants to come and work at her law firm even though he was the one that cheated on her and why they got divorced. They are forced to work together and work through their past whether they want to or not. Things get very heated and also between the other lawyers in the office.

I think this drama had good acting and chemistry between the actors and I think the plot was interesting and the cases they work on are definitely unique. I think this drama had a lot of shock value and the problems they get themselves into was a fun ride to watch. I really liked watching the relationships and characters and just watch them work things out. I think it was a fun drama to watch and it felt somewhat different then the typical meet cute, fall in love scenario. Things are messy and emotions are conflicted and it just felt there was a lot that could have been done with growth of the characters. I feel like it had a realistic vibe where the characters have damage/trauma that they can’t really get over with the power of love. It also delved into the topics of having kids and what do you need to be fulfilled in this life. I think the drama had a lot of potential to be a really good one.

Unfortunately the biggest problem with the drama is the ending. I would say it is not a happy ending and feels somewhat rushed compared to the rest of the drama. I know that a lot of people were upset about the ending and it erred on the too realistic to how relationships end up. I just decided that I was going to leave it with an open ending and that they will likely end up together eventually but that was how I going to leave it in my mind. I didn’t find myself being as upset as other people as I still enjoyed the drama despite the ending. I think they should have had Eun-Beom get help earlier then he did in the drama and have them work through their problems instead of doing that easy way out ending. Other than the ending, I don’t really have anything that I disliked about it, it was entertaining and it felt a bit more unique vibe with their cases and themes in the drama. I really did enjoy it and would say check it out if you are interested but don’t be expecting too much out of the ending!

Poong, The Joseon Psychiatrist 2

This drama is a sequel to Poong, The Joseon Psychiatrist and I think it would be hard to watch the second series without having watched the first season. So it is the continuation of the story of Yoo Se-Poong (Kim Min Jae) who is a royal physician who can’t do acupuncture because of a traumatic experience he had and he continues to fix people especially those that need help with their heart and mind. It starts off with an unusual case in the royal palace and Poong has to fight against the royal physicians to figure out the case. Eun-Woo has been separated from the clinic living with her parents but she has continued to write letters to everyone and is going to come back to visit. They continue to solve cases and struggle with their feelings for each other as she is a widow and because of social customs it makes it hard for them to be together.

I think it was enjoyable drama even though it seemed to lack a bit of story with the main characters. The drama also doesn’t really explain why a widow isn’t allowed to marry and it would get frustrating because they focused a lot of time and energy on this problem in this drama. They just take turns self-sacrificing for each other trope. I didn’t mind the new and different cases that were done but it didn’t feel justified to do a second season. I really find it strange since there are many dramas that people have longed to have a second season for but I doubt anyone would have really demanded a second season of this show.

It was a decent heart warming tale but I didn’t really feel or were touched with some heart fluttering moments. I just didn’t feel the love between the two of the leads and it just felt somewhat forced. I found the side stories more interesting and the people that they met and their mysteries to be the reason to keep watching this drama. It is a decent drama with a happy ending that will leave you satisfied. There were interesting elements in this drama but as a whole it still felt like there was something missing.

I would say it is very similar to the first season and if you enjoyed that, I would definitely watch the second season.

Our Blooming Youth

Warning this may contain spoilers

This drama is about Min Jae-Yi (Jeon So-Nee) who is framed for the murders of her entire family and she finds her way to Crown Prince Lee Hwan (Park Hyung-Sik) who has been sent a ghost letter cursing him. Jae-Yi begs him to help her and he agrees after she tells him that she will help him with the mysterious letter as she is very smart and helps him solve some suspicious things going on around him.

I did enjoy this drama but I think I had high hopes for this drama and was a bit disappointed with the drama. It had a lot of episodes so I was also kinda sad the way that they wrapped up the ending so quickly, they had plenty of time they could have given us more than crumbs for the ending. I also am unhappy with how they just skipped over the whole Jae-Yi’s family murders and didn’t really flesh out well the reason for the murders. I don’t know if I am just confused about it, but the whole gravestone being such a great clue seemed silly to me. A gravestone of some names doesn’t really seem worthy of killing an entire family over, first of all people can change their names and how are you going to really prove it. Secondly, why not just get rid of the evidence instead of killing a whole family, I feel that will draw more attention to this problem then anything. So overall I found the reasons somewhat confusing and the ending felt rushed and things or rules just change so suddenly. Also they try to explain all the supernatural things but the whole hair turning white overnight because they got hypnotized was just so bizarre and the weird fish was a little bit over the top in ridiculousness. Of course with all palace dramas the old men trying to steal power from the king trope is been done to death in dramas.

I enjoyed the drama and characters and enjoyed the effort into trying to make a more interesting political palace drama. I found the romance to be cute and I wish there would have been more of love triangle with the Sargent and that he would have found her earlier but overall it was good. I also appreciate a happy ending and it was satisfying to win against evil. Overall it was a decent drama but I don’t feel it as anything really new or exciting that would make it an unique drama. It also really gave me love in the moonlight vibes with the Jae-Yi dressing as a eunuch for most of the drama. It felt like a mish mash of different historical type dramas but nothing really stand out for me. People also felt like it was a very slow-moving drama which I don’t always mind but it did seem slow at times. I still did enjoy it even if there was problems.

It was a decent drama and I would recommend if you love historical dramas!

Fanletter, Please

This drama is a short drama with only 4 episodes, I would say it felt more like a movie. It stars Han Gang-Hee (Sooyoung) who is a an actress and is facing a crisis because of rumors and her image plummets. It also stars Bang Jung-Seok (Yoon Park) who has a daughter who has cancer and is a huge fan of Gang-Hee and sends her a fan letter and it ends up helping Gang-Hee.

This is a cute drama and I can appreciate it more because it was fast-paced and they get right to the point because of time. The acting is good, the kids are cute and it was pretty decent for such a short drama. I enjoyed it, it was interesting and was a fun watch. The one complaint is they never explain what happened to the mother of the child. I don’t know why they don’t make it clear because I thought we would get an explanation at the end but it was never explained. The drama doesn’t go really that deep and kinda skim over the trauma that the characters face but I understand they don’t have time.

It was a cute short drama that is easy to watch!

Bad Prosecutor

I also decided to watch this drama it stars Jin Jung (Do Kyung-Soo) who has a strong sense of justice and has no problems doing what he thinks is right to solve the case as a prosecutor. This drama felt unique and felt somewhat refreshing for a law drama as I felt like there have been many in the last while. I liked how Jin Jung approached things differently and just tackled them head on even though it may not always the best method but he really got things done and was decisive. I thought I may get bored with the subject matter but yet the cases were always interesting and was always action packed. I was pretty impressed with this drama, I loved the twists and turns and shocking reveals. It really feels like it needs a second season but there has been no news released about that. I liked the side characters as well and how they get into trouble for Jin Jung.

At times it felt really unrealistic like Jin Jung being blamed for the murders and evading capture and then the next day it could all just disappear and the way he beat up people. I don’t think you have the authority for that even if you are a prosecutor. There isn’t any romance in this drama, not that it is needed but there was a bit of flirtation so that felt like a loose end. I think overall though this is a fun ride and pretty entertaining to watch Jin Jung go after the bad guys!

I would recommend this drama for anyone that loves the unconventional hero !

Catch Up My Prince

I watched this Chinese drama about Lu Ran Ran who is an intern doctor and is told to join this game by one of her patients and she gets trapped in the game. She has to finish one of the routes to be able to leave the game and her life could be in jeopardy if anything happens to her in the game. She is a laundry maid and has to find a way for one of the main characters which are princes to fall in love with her. She falls for one of the princes but can’t seem to get his love score up.

I thought it was a fun drama with many characters and just the rules of the game really made it interesting if she has to finish a different quest and it just felt more unique than a typical love story. I have to say it really sucked me into the story at times and found it to be refreshing and interesting way to approach a drama.

I did find the ending to be kinda of a let down since they don’t spend much time in the real life and how to move past the game. Also the reason for things going wrong is due to the “bad guy” and his reasoning is a bit silly and his motives are kinda convoluted. I think they could have a done a better job of building up the story and given it a stronger base and ending.

Overall it was a fun drama that was easy to watch and one I didn’t take too seriously.

The dramas I have been watching this fall have not been that many! I can’t say I have found many that I felt like watching this fall hopefully there will be more coming my way soon.

The first one that I watched was The Eccentric Daughter-in-Law or Virtual Bride. I mainly wanted to check this one out because Dasom from Sistar was in it and was curious about her acting. It is about a failing kpop girl group member that decides to do a reality tv show about living the daughter-in-law experience and how she would feel actually becoming a real daughter-in-law. The show depicts a few mother in law and daughter in law relationships which all seem pretty rough, I am not sure if there is any out there like that but it seemed pretty brutal. So that created a lot of interesting drama. The production of the drama seemed pretty low budget but yet I found the characters to still be pretty enteraining to watch. The main male lead was a bit different but yet he still grew on me. The ending was kinda meh but overall not a bad drama! Just not a great one either.

The second one that I watched was a korean webdrama Dr Ian where a psychiatrist who specializes in hypnosis treatments helps an office girl that is going through a betrayal and break up and is played by Dara from 2NE1. The episodes are super short and the whole series is short. I always love psychology dramas and it is a bit confusing I think because they tried to fit a story into such a short time frame but I still enjoyed it. I thought it was an interesting story!

The third one I watched was also a webdrama called Girl of 0Am which is about a delusioned singer that becomes in charge of a karoke business and a woman shows up after midnight and helps him with his business and also sets him back on his path with singing. Again kinda confusing of I am still unsure what exactly happened in the end. But still an interesting show!

The fourth one that I am currently watching is She Was Pretty which stars Hwang Jung Eum and Park Seo Joon and they played brother and sister in Kill Me, Heal Me and now they get to play new roles in a different drama which I love. The story is about Jung Eum was a pretty girl from a rich family but then her family went bankrupt and she also lost her beauty. Meanwhile Seo Joon was unattractive with low self-esteem and he grows up to be handsome and successful. They meet in unexpected ways and creates a lot of interesting and painful situations. I have to say I am really am enjoying this drama . I am only half way through but have enjoyed all the circumstances and awkwardness of the drama. I think it is a fun drama and would easily recommend it to watch!!

The Fifth drama that I just barely started is  Sassy Go Go or Cheer Up! I have only watched two episodes but I think it will be an amusing drama! I feel like it is a typical high school drama and all the politics happening within schools. It paints a harsh picture of what school is like for students in Korea. I am not sure if I love Eun Ji in this role. I have liked her before but I find this character a less likable one to me. It is about Eun-Ji a student in charge of a dance club which gets shut down and to win it back she has to create a cheer team and work with other students she dislikes. I am not as excited for this drama as I think I am supposed to be but oh well will probably still watch!

Picture 13

Thank You Everyone for bearing with me as I have been slow on these recaps! I have been having some personal issues which has stopped me from writing these on time!

So this drama is finally over! I have enjoyed this drama but I have found it to be too long! I am sure that it could have been shortened to even 10 or 16 episodes it just was not necessary. This drama was a very sweet drama with the love between Woo-Hyun and Seul-Bi and it was nice but it also had dark elements to this story with death and the character change of Sung-Yeol. Sung-Yeol’s character throughout this drama was frankly just strange at the beginning he was normal a little cold and then he warmed up, then went crazy and evil and ended with him being a playboy and really happy!? it was kinda strange and I am not sure if I really liked his character at all!! I am satisfied that it had a happy ending and that it worked out for everyone! but I mean it seems kinda unrealistic that three guys would all love her and 2 would go crazy and do evil things because she didn’t love them back! One thing that was weird is the logic in this drama with her being an angel and Sunbae saving her? how? and why did he become human? What did she think she was after she lost her memories? wouldn’t she realize she had none? What happened to the timer on her wrist? It was a strange wrap up and they sure milked her getting her memories back in this episode they literally waited for like the last 5 minutes!! One thing I have to say is that I definitely found Sung-Yeol’s dad to be really attractive! I really liked his looks and personality!!

Also just to note that Woo-Hyun was won the vote for who Seul-Bi should end up with, with about half the votes!!

High School Love On Episode 19 Recap/Summary December 31, 2014

Episode 19 starts with Seul-Bi passed out and Woo-Hyun finds Jae-Suk and stops him and from touching Seul-Bi and then punches him. Woo-Hyun tries to take Seul-Bi in and Sung-Yeol is sick and barely opens the door for them. They take Sung-Yeol to the hospital and he has flashbacks to the time he had fun with Woo-hyun and Seul-Bi. He wakes up and Mrs. Ahn comes running in concerned about him and he notices she is wearing sandals even though it is cold outside.Picture 1

Woo-Hyun makes Mrs. Ahn wear his shoes because it is cold outside and tells her he is glad that she is a good person. Sung-Yeol goes home and his dad is sad for him too. The next day Sung-Yeol goes to his dad’s room and finds papers for a divorce. Seul-Bi finds him looking at it and encourages him that they can help stop them from getting a divorce. At school Woo-Hyun stops Jae-Suk and asks if he wants Seul-Bi to disappear and he says because everything is her fault and Woo-Hyun replies that Seul-Bi is concerned about him and without her he will be alone for the rest of of his life. Woo-Hyun finds Sung-Yeol and Seul-Bi and they are acting nicer to each other and he makes Sung-Yeol wear the yellow bracelet.

Picture 2

Sung-Yeol tells him about the divorce and he asks him to talk to Mrs. Ahn. Sung-Yeol runs into Mrs. Ahn and he tells her to call his dad first because he isn’t good at returning calls and apologizing. In gym class they get a group of students together and they want to come up with an idea to Young-Eun’s sister to help pay for the medical help that she needs. Da-Yeol goes to Jae-Suk and ties the yellow ribbon on his wrist and tells him he should have been nice and tells him to fit in.

Picture 3

Seul-Bi then talks to him that its okay to be different and to be with everyone so he doesn’t feel different and then high fives him. At the restaurant they are having a fundraiser for Young-Eun’s sister. Jae-Suk meets some other high schooler students and they want to fight him. Jae-Suk starts fighting and Tae-Ho and Byeong-Wook show up and help him fight them. Tae-Ho, Byeong-Wook and Jae-Suk come to the restaurant and they put him to work for the fundraiser. At the end the teachers come and they also give money towards Young-Eun’s sister surgery. Ye-Na and Ki-Soo go to the hospital to see Young-Eun and give her the money. Young-Eun is upset a t Ye-Na for flashing her money and making her feel bad and doesn’t want to accept the money. Ye-Na is crying and says she has never known she had a sister and wants to meet her. Ye-Na hugs her and says she is sorry she didn’t know she was having such a hard time and Young-Eun also starts crying.

Picture 4

At home Woo-Hyun asks Mrs. Ahn what his father was like and she says he was a good man and they got divorced because they both wanted to lean on each other. Woo-Hyun says they should have leaned on each other and that she shouldn’t have regrets again and to work it out with Sung-Yeol’s dad. She gives him her necklace because the miracle of finding him happened and that he should give it to the girl he likes so he can stay with her forever. The next day Woo-Hyun, Seul-Bi, and Sung-Yeol go and have fun at a skating rink where they curl, skate, sled, and get a dog sled ride.

Picture 5

They also write letters that will be sent a year from now. The three of them take a picture and in the picture Seul-Bi turns gray for a few seconds.

Picture 6

At the restaurant Young-Eun comes in and Ki-Soo asks about her sister and she is doing well. Young-Eun wants to work there so she doesn’t feel indebted to anyone. Woo-Hyun goes home and Mrs. Ahn asks him a bunch of questions and he feels good that he has a mom to come home to that cares about him. He tells her Sung-Yeol is back to his old self and she tells him that she took care of Sung-Yeol but never gave him her heart and all she did was give Woo-Hyun her heart but did nothing for him.

Seul-Bi and Sung-Yeol talk to his dad and tell him that they want to go out for supper today and he agrees. Sung-Yeol walks his dad out and tells him to be careful when running after fugitives and his dad is happy that he has his son back. Joo-Ah gets a call from her dad wanting money from her and Tae-Ho comes up behind her to surprise her and he can’t because of what she is talking about.

Picture 7

The toy goes off and she finds him and she starts crying and he tells her to hit him and she does while crying. Woo-Young, Mrs. Ahn, Seul-Bi, Sung-Yeol and his dad are at the restaurant and they all agree for the divorce because the dad didn’t make an effort towards Mrs. Ahn. They give all these reasons sarcastically about them giving up so easily so they should just divorce and they all laugh.

Picture 8

Woo-Young, Sung-Yeol and Seul-Bi go for a walk together and he teases Sung-Yeol that he is the older brother and he hugs him and they joke around. Later Woo-Young gives Seul-Bi his necklace that he didn’t know she had saved and he wears his mom necklace. At home Mrs. Ahn and Woo-Young talk and she asks if he think they can all live together and if she has a right after hurting him so bad. He tells her to help heal the wound and he wants to try having experiencing embracing a mother  and tell her thank you for giving him birth and that he likes Sung-Yeol a lot. Sung-Yeol packs his bag and leaves his house.

Picture 9

Seul-Bi talks to Sunbae and tell him that she wishes him happiness. Sunbae is outside and says as long as she isn’t back he can never be back, and he will prove that human love changes even if he loses everything. Seul-Bi goes to put clothes away and notices all of Sung-Yeol’s clothes are gone so she and Woo-Hyun go looking for Sung-Yeol. Sung-Yeol says to himself that he is leaving to live and to wait for him and that he will reflect on himself and learn a lot to come back a new man. He goes to cross a street and Sunbae is watching and takes control over a van and Woo-Hyun sees him and runs and pushes him out of the way. Seul-Bi comes over and holds onto Woo-Hyun, Sunbae comes and tries to stop the truck but is not able to.Picture 10

Woo-Hyun is in the hospital and Mrs. Ahn is next to him when he awakes and he asks about everyone else. She takes him to Sung-Yeol who looks in rough shape and is not awake. He asks about Seul-Bi and she tells him that she wasn’t there and he falls to the ground and she holds him and he cries and this ends episode 19.

The 17th episode starts with Sung-Yeol’s dad telling Woo-Hyun to get out of his house so Seul-Bi, Woo-Hyun and Mrs. Ahn are leaving in Woo-Hyun’s house now. Mrs. Ahn looks around the house and finds some of Woo-Hyun’s baby clothes and pictures.Picture 1

Sung-Yeol and his dad are alone at there house and his dad tells him whatever he wants he should not destroy himself to get it and Sung-Yeol tells him he has come to far to stop so just to think of him as already lost and his father protests this. Kwang-Shik teacher has come back and everyone is happy. He gives Joo-Ah the money from her boss at the convenient store that wasn’t treating her well. In class Sung-Yeol was drawing attention to Seul-Bi’s arm and then it started glowing and she hid it and Woo-Hyun threw a paper ball at Sung-Yeol to distract everybody.Picture 2

While everyone was writing their tests the words disappeared on the paper and then they came back. Sunbae is out in the hallway watching this. When the papers are collected and brought forward Sunbae makes them disappear. Jae-Suk blames it on Seul-Bi because he has heard that she has magical powers and that she should get them back. Seul-Bi goes to the front and Sunbae makes them appear again.

At lunch Seul-Bi goes to sit with Ye-Na and she thinks Seul-Bi is making fun of her and she also saw the glowing so she tries to see her arm but she distracts her. Joo-Ah and Tae-Ho sit with them as well and Woo-Hyun makes her leave and Tae-Hoo follows her.
