October and November 2023 Drama Reviews

CEO-dol Mart

This drama is about a former idol boy group called Thunder Boys that after a tragedy got disbanded and they find out years later that they were given Boram Mart and they all come together after not keeping in contact and have to decide whether they are going to sell the mart or try and make it work and run a mart. It stars Choi Ho-Rang (Lee Sin-Young) who is the leader of Thunder Boys and is always trying his best to take care of everyone. It also stars Shin Tae-Ho (Xiumin) who is often causing problems and is considered immature. The 5 members also need help in running the mart and Oh Ye-Rim (Choi Jung-Woon) a former employee also joins them to help them out as she is struggling to land a job.

It is a short drama with 10 episodes and so it doesn’t really get too far with the story line and it is more of a feel-good, heart warming story of friendship and working together. I didn’t really have high hopes for this drama because it just didn’t look like a big budget drama but I surprisingly enjoyed the moments of the drama even though it is a bit on the cheesier side. You want to root for them to be able to work together and find happiness but it ends really quickly and they didn’t really get time to develop the characters or even a love line. It definitely felt like a rushed ending and with the possibility that there could be a new season but I highly doubt that it will continue on. It had some awkward acting and unrealistic elements to this drama but I just enjoyed the happy silly mood of the drama, it didn’t bother me too much. Also if you are fans of the idols in the drama it would make sense to watch it!

If you just want to watch a simple, feel-good drama I would recommend.

Battle For Happiness

This drama is about Oh Yoo-Jin (Park Hyo-Joo) who is a mother and social media influencer, she is running the show at her children’s kindergarten and among the parents. She is fierce and keeps all the other Mother’s in check while looking perfect on social media. Jang Mi-Ho (Lee El) works in the marketing department for a bank and comes across Oh Yoo-Jin’s applicant for a contest and is reminded of their past with each other. She gets back in contact with her and wants to work out the differences they had in the past with each other but is unable to do so as Yoo-Jin doesn’t want to cooperate and before she can fix the problem there is a murder that happens and Mi-Ho has to try and figure out what happened.

I think this drama started out strong and had a lot of potential to be one of intrigue and suspense but the writing got worse as the episodes went on and not to mention this drama has 16 episodes that just seemed too long! What was the most tiring was Mi-Ho’s character, she would just run headlong into situations and not even develop a plan or do anything smart! In real life she would have been killed after a few times of trying that out. I mean if you think someone was the murderer you shouldn’t just outright accuse them, I mean develop a plan and watch them or try to befriend them and check them out. Honestly Yoo-Jin’s character would have been way better at figuring out the mystery and much less frustrating even though she wasn’t really a good character. The way Mi-Ho acted around the real murderer was so stupid in the last episodes and it was like she lacked all common sense. Even I watched all the episodes I still don’t really get the feud between Mi-Ho and Yoo-Jin which if you made the central part of the drama, you would think the writer would make it very clear and it would have been portrayed better how they were each wrong. I still don’t get what Mi-Ho really did to Yoo-Jin and why she needs to be apologetic towards Yoo-Jin? It just didn’t feel like Yoo-Jin had enough conviction to hate Mi-Ho. Yoo-Jin made her own decisions and how she ended up was her own fault. It was also a little much that all the men portrayed in this drama was pretty much evil and garbage human beings, it reminds me of the Queen of Masks and how all the men were portrayed in the same way and has the same type of themes.

I think it was interesting for the first couple of episodes but the only reason I hung in there was it was fun to see her taking care of the two little girls and becoming a better person because she had someone to take care of. I still felt compelled to watch the show because you want to figure out what happened and that is the only reason to keep watching. I still I’m not sure what the moral of the story of this drama was? Yoo-Jin tried to have the perfect family but it was completely fake ? I feel like the person that needed to learn the lesson died so it just feels unsatisfactory? This story just seemed to be convoluted and there seemed to be loose ends at the ending that don’t get cleaned up.

It is definitely a melodrama and not the best one out there but it does take you on a ride.

Twinkling Watermelon

This drama is about a high school student Eun Gyeol (Ryeo Un) who is struggling as a child of parents that are deaf. He really wants to play music but he doesn’t want his Father to know because he doesn’t think he will understand. He then mysteriously travels back in time when his parents are teenagers and He meets his father Han Yi-Chan (Choi Hyun-Wook) and the girl that his father has a crush on Choi Se-Kyung (Seol In-A). His Father is in love with a girl that isn’t his Mother so he needs to fix this problem and make sure his Father and Mother meet.

This is a really fun drama about youth and trying to understand your parents, how fun would it be if you could go back in time and meet your parents when they were young, innocent and hopeful. How much would you be able to connect and empathize if you knew them from a different era of their lives. I really love the concept behind this drama because Eun-Gyeol is really trying to carry the burden of the whole family by being the only hearing person in the family and this time travel trip allows him to understand his Father better. The focus on the drama is not just a typical love story in fact that is such a small part of the story it really delves into what is friendship and family. I really liked the mystery of it all and loved that it had plot twists throughout the drama. It had a good flow and was well-written and really kept you guessing on how the future was going to be changed by Eun-Gyeol’s decisions and actions in the past. I also found it really interesting in having a storyline with characters that were deaf and being able to see the world through their eyes and the challenges they face was eye-opening. I really loved the love and story line of Eun-Gyeol’s parents, the love and overcoming challenges was really great.

The only problem I had with the drama was the ending, it was too rushed and they could have done so much more with it and given it more time to really dig into a good ending. It just felt too sudden and didn’t feel very authenticate to what Eun-Gyeol had been through. Also they didn’t revisit Se-Kyung’s family in the future so it felt like we are missing so much information and even what happened with the grandpa from the music shop, if his future had changed at all.

So overall it was a great drama even if the ending was somewhat lacking a in depth conclusion.

Today’s Webtoon

This dramas stars Ma- Eum (Kim Se-Jeong) who used to be a judo athlete, but wants to transition into a different job after suffering an injury. She uses her passion and love for webtoons to eventually get hired at a struggling Webtoon department and becomes an editor. It also stars Goo Jun-Yeong (Nam Yoon-Soo) as a newly transferred employee into the webtoon department, he doesn’t understand what he is doing there as an editor but starts to fit in after working together with Ma-Eum.

This drama did a great job of keeping the story interesting and something with depth. As someone who likes to read webtoons, it was interesting to see the work that goes on behind the scenes to create a webtoon and the mechanics of it. I really liked how it was a big cast and they showed the different characters and the problems they face as artists, editors and managers. It really kept the momentum of the show going and the different way they could solve problems was interesting. I was also surprised at the depth that they went into with especially Shin Dae-Ryuk’s character and it was interesting understanding his thinking and his past. I think this drama is an embodiment of the underdog spirit, they know they are fighting for their life but they keep their belief and are able to accomplish what was considered impossible. I really like these type of stories because it feels hopeful. It is nice to watch a heart warming drama that makes you feel good which this drama did well.

What I didn’t like was that the ending was good but it seemed to lack impact and the love lines kinda got lost in the mix of the drama. I am not sure what they were trying to do, it seemed for a while they wanted a love triangle and then took a sharp left and then just kinda left it hanging. I think the romance department was pretty lacking and to me if you don’t want to commit to that then it would be better to just omit the whole love line sequence in the drama altogether. I don’t really have much complaints about this drama. I thought it was very good and I connected with the characters and felt the story was interesting and didn’t find myself bored in the drama.

I would recommend this drama if you like heart warming and office style dramas.

Poong The Joseon Psychiatrist

Poong is about a physician Yoo Se Poong (Kim Min-Jae) that was famous for working for the royal family but gets kicked out the royal court and he has become unable to use his needles due to trauma and eventually finds his way to a doctor and a bunch of misfits that work there. He starts to work as a doctor that instead of using acupuncture to heal people he learns to treat and people’s mental pain that is affecting their physical bodies. Just to warn everybody that there is plans for a second season and this was planned from the start so the ending is a definitely a cliffhanger, so don’t go into watching it thinking that everything will be wrapped up at the end.

I am a sucker for dramas about acupuncture and psychology and they have mixed the two in this drama. I thought it was a very well made drama the way they told the story and the way they treated each patient was interesting and was always a mystery that needed to be solved. Of course they had greedy officials which I find very tiring in the historical type dramas but at least the story and plots were somewhat more interesting than the typical way they try to be evil. I also really liked the misfit group of people and enjoyed the humor that was sprinkled throughout the drama. I really liked the feel good aspect of the drama and enjoyed the characters and humor. I thought it was interesting to see dealing with mental health in historical type times since I haven’t really seen this be done before I thought it was a fresh perspective .

What I didn’t like about this drama was the chemistry was a bit lacking between the male and female leads. It didn’t ever really give me butterflies or twinges that they were meant to be together. This could be because they were planning a second season so they wanted to leave something to be explored in a second season so I am not too bothered by this aspect about this drama.

I would recommend this drama if you like medical/psychology type dramas

If You Wish Upon Me

This drama is about Yoon Gyeo -Rye (Ji Chang-Wook) a man that has lived a rough life and has found himself having to volunteer at a hospice for causing an accident. He starts to change as a person there after he gets involved with volunteer team leader Kang Tae-Sik (Sung Dong-ll) and Nurse Seo Yeon-Joo (Sooyoung) and their team that grants wishes to those who are dying. For the first time Gyeo-Rye starts to understand how to be truly happy for the first time even when having to face death head on.

This is a great drama if you need something to sob uncontrollably to something. I didn’t know if I could handle watching this drama since in almost every episode there is death or dealing with really tough situations. I kinda wanted to give up after an episode or two but somehow it was still interesting and I wanted to keep watching even if I ended up with a headache from crying to this drama. I though Chang-Wook did a great job which I was surprised because I didn’t really like other dramas that he was in but I thought he did a great job in this one. I liked how they showed the different people’s last wishes and it kept it interesting even though it was heart breaking.

What I didn’t like was some ideas they had in this drama was unrealistic, I don’t want to say too much but it had to do with a coma patient. Also I don’t really get how they can work and live there as volunteers, it is somewhat strange concept to me also is there enough money for a wage especially as they are volunteers. Again I didn’t really feel the chemistry between the two main leads, it was a interesting dynamic but I didn’t really feel the spark between them, they seemed more like brother and sister to me. They have cute moments but I never really got the passionate love between them more of a familial type love to me.

This is a tear jerking drama that is somewhat unrealistic but has heart and I would recommend it!

Good Job

This drama is about Eun Seon-Woo (Jung II-Woo) who owns Eun Kang Group one of the largest companies but does undercover work and loves disguises while he searches for his mom’s killer. He is doing it undercover and has to deal with snakes within his company since everyone wants his downfall. It also stars Don Se-ra (Kwon Yuri) who was born with hyper-acuity and is able to see farther than anyone else. She is caring and wants to take care of her family that was with her together in the orphanage. She works odd jobs and runs into Seon-Woo and he gets her onboard with his work and they make a great team investigating.

I think this was a fun drama with a bit of mystery and romance. I think I appreciated the humour aspect of it and the drama didn’t always take itself very seriously and that made it more watchable. I thought the main leads had good chemistry even though it seemed like they never kissed or got very romantic even at the end. They seemed to hold hands and hug a lot more which seemed a little odd by the end but I didn’t mind it, it was cute. It has a good ending and it seemed like they were hinting at a second season which could be interesting but I am not dying to second season or anything though. Honestly the plot twist was pretty good and had me fooled.

I am not sure I loved Yuri’s acting or if it was her character, I just found it lacking somewhat for the main lead but it wasn’t terrible or anything. One thing I thought was not great was the disguises that they would wear, they acted as if they were very good at going undercover but it was pretty laughable most of the time.

This is a fun romantic comedy that doesn’t take itself too seriously and I recommend if you want a light drama with some mystery.

September, October 2021 Korean Drama Reviews

The first drama that I finished was Hospital Playlist 2. So it continues on with the story from the first season, so to enjoy the second season you need to watch the first season. It picks up where things were left off with the different relationships and of course the classic friendships of the doctors. This drama always makes me so sad that I don’t have a group of friends where you have this unbreakable connection. Although in one episode Kim Jun-Wan and Yang Seok-Hyeong are alone together on a trip and they are so awkward and don’t mesh well together which seemed really realistic when it comes to friend groups, not everyone is comfortable being alone with certain members of groups. I feel like I would be the awkward one! Each episode was filled with different patients and story lines mixed with the friendships of the group.

I have to say I was pretty satisfied with the second season even though I know it wasn’t as good as the first season but it definitely filled my heart with warmth watching the characters come together again and just eat, share troubles, and play music together. It just felt like this was a nice comfortable feeling that soothed me. Not all dramas are able to achieve this warm feeling and I really enjoyed each episode.

The only problems that I saw was that at times it felt like it was going slow in some of the relationships and found the patient story lines more boring this season. I think there was a lack of character development for the doctors and I wished they paid more attention to developing their characters instead of riding on the coattails of the first season. It was like the character worked in the first season so we aren’t going to change much for them in the second season.

Overall I really did enjoy getting to have a second season of Hospital Playlist and I am sad that the story is now concluded. I really am a sucker for the friendship dramas!

The second drama that I completed was You are My Spring. It is about Kang Da-Jeong (Seo Hyun-Jin) who had a tough childhood and she is working at a hotel and moves into a new building that her friends dad own and they work in the building running a cafe. Ju Young-Do (Kim Dong-Wook) is a psychiatrist and also works in the same building and is very good at reading people. It also stars Chae Jun (Yoon Park) who is a CEO of an investment company and has been expressing his feelings towards Da-Jeong for a while and she doesn’t know if she can trust him because she has only dated jerks.

I think this was a really interesting drama that was keeping me on the edge of my seat. It is a bit dark and I wasn’t really expecting that from the look of the drama. I thought I would try watching it but was hoping it wasn’t a fluff piece that was not complex enough. I was really wrong this was a intricate and emotionally charged drama that was very compelling. I really like when they mix psychology into the dramas and make the characters more dimensional because humans are interesting and also very complex and it feels more authentic when the characters have interesting sides to them. The acting was also really good I really liked Yoon Park’s acting, I was really impressed with his acting. I love having a mystery in the drama, it always keeps me more engaged in the drama and it was pretty compelling throughout the whole drama.

What I didn’t like was the back and forth in the romantic relationship it was somewhat unnecessary to be breaking up and getting back together that much. It just felt a bit overdone and I thought it was a bit redundant and was tiring. I also thought Da-Jeong was going to have more of a journey with counselling and that she would need more fixing that what they did, I wished they would have focused more on inner healing. The way they just addressed some of her past and how simple and easy it was to get over her past felt ridiculous and really did not do justice to those who are actually suffering with these problems. I just thought they made counseling seem to simplistic and I think they could have focused more on these issues instead of the whole breaking up aspect. Actually they needed to deal with inner problems with more characters but it felt like they are telling people just sweep those emotions under the rug and ignore it and overcome it on your own and if not sharing your past with someone will be enough to make the problem go away which is clearly not true. I get it was just a drama but I wish they would have tried a little harder in that area.

It was a really interesting drama that I feel was underrated and is really not expected from the summary and it would say it is pretty edgy and yet would hit you in all the feels.

The third drama that I finished was Police University. This drama is about Yoo Dong-Man (Cha Tae-Hyun) who is a former detective and got in trouble after not being able to solve cyber crime involving illegal gambling and now has to work as professor at the police university. It also stars Kang Sun-Ho (Jin Young) who is a rookie at the university and excels at hacking and gets involved with Dong-Man’s continued investigation into the illegal gambling. It also stars Oh Kang-Hee (Krystal) who is doing her best to become a honest and righteous police officer despite her family background.

I was concerned watching a drama with Krystal as one of the leads because I don’t think she is very good at acting but I thought I can’t go wrong with Tae-Hyun as one of the leads since he is pretty humorous but I was let down. I did not like this drama and it wasn’t necessarily that Krystal had terrible acting it was the script. It was just boring and I did not feel much of anything for any of the characters. I was expecting a funny and exciting drama filled with great friendship moments but it was just so disappointing. I though Jin Young did a really good job with his acting and he probably was the only reason that I completed the drama but it was not compelling and even though there was interesting mystery to solve it just did not play on my emotions or feelings at all. I watched the drama sped up so I could get through each episode faster. I know it is bad if I speed it up and the sound gets all weird but I am so bored! The ending was not that great either just kinda weird.

I would stay away from this drama, it is really lacking but if you like an okay police drama then go for it!

The fourth drama I finished was Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha. It stars Yoon Hye-Jin (Shin Min-A) who is a black listed dentist and finds herself in the small seaside village of Gongjin and an offer to set up a clinic comes her way and she reluctantly agrees to set up her own practice. It also stars Hong Du-Sik (Kim Sun-Ho) who is considered the handyman of the village and does all kinds of jobs around the village without being officially employed and lives a more carefree life and is content helping those that need help.

This is a very lovable drama with all the village characters along with the main characters it seems so filled with love and friendship. I think it is so heart warming because now a days it feels like we are really disconnected from the people around us and we struggle to have relationships with family never mind a community. I think this drama just feels really nice to imagine a place where you can find help and have a sense of pride and connection and purpose in a community and this is really reflected through Chief Hong’s character. I really like all the villagers and characters and how they had true character development and even if you mess up, it really is the best to learn from and how to become better. Everyone was giving second, third or fourth chances and sometimes people need time to become a better person. I thought it was really a lovely drama and deserved the hype that it got. It was a really good story.

The only thing that bothered me was of course Yoon Hye-Jin’s personality at the beginning, but that was okay in the end because she needed to grow and stop putting up walls to protect herself. Also not sure if this is a spoiler but dramas need to stop adding childhood connections into the love story. It has been so overdone for years that I am annoyed already. The more I think about it who remembers random moments from childhood with a person it does not make the connection deeper or better. As a child you are not thinking romantic stuff like that it is honestly just weird when I think about it. The only other thing that I thought didn’t really work was Chief Hong’s secret and that the whole scenario that happened was portrayed as his fault when clearly that was not the case. I think it wasn’t very believable that everyone would have believed that to be the case.

Also it was all in the news that Kim Sun-Ho had apparently forced his ex girlfriend to have an abortion and then dumped her and this came out from the girlfriend and so it seemed like everyone was trying to cancel him and he had to leave his variety show. Honestly all I could think about was the case of Kim Hyun-Joong and his girlfriend tried to smear him and said that he assaulted her and caused her to miscarry. In the end she was the one that was found to have lied and sued for defamation and it caused so much damage to his career. So I find it super suspicious that when Kim Sun-Ho got really famous that she would start releasing all these allegations against him the timing is super suspicious! I think when one gets famous the crazies come out of the woodwork and would never trust these allegations that come out. My first reaction is to be reminded of Kim Hyun-Joong’s case and understand that people can try to damage others especially if they are jealous which celebrity has the tendency to do. You should never treat someone like a criminal until they are proven guilty!

I think this was a really sweet, funny and lovable drama and definitely recommend Hometown Cha Cha Cha.

The last drama was Yumi’s Cells which is based on the Webtoon with the same name. It is about Yu-Mi (Kim Go-Eun) who is single and is interested in getting in a new relationship since she has been single for a long time after a bad relationship in her last one. The story exists on the outside of Yumi and on the inside of Yumi’s head with her cells. There is a town of cells in Yumi that help deal with her emotions and problems. They all have a purpose and personality and we see exactly what is going on inside Yumi’s head. Part of the drama with the cells is animation in her head and outside of her head is live action. It has an Inside Out feel to it but is still very different and this is for a more mature audience. Just to say it, I don’t think this webtoon came out after Inside Out so no one is copying each other. There is a season 2 already confirmed because the story is far from over after the first season.

I read the webtoon before watching the drama and I thought that might be problematic but also they usually change so much from the webtoon I didn’t think it really mattered. In this case they are sticking very close to the webtoon which I really am happy about since I think it doesn’t need to be changed. I really wish other dramas would take the time to tell the story the way the webtoon or book told it, sometimes it is the small things that really make a drama/story great. I know for some people that the animation might be a turn off in a drama but if you have read the webtoon it actually really fits perfectly fine into the story.

I really like how all the cells have different purposes and just having different jobs and to help explain the human condition was interesting. It really gives depths to how our brain works and gives an interesting way of explaining the differences in people’s minds and why sometimes you can’t get on the same page. It just gives you a different perspective to how people’s brains work even if it fictitious, I think we can all see ourselves or parts of ourselves in the different cells and how we deal with life. I didn’t mind the changes that they did make from the webtoon and honestly I can’t always remember if what happened was in the webtoon or not because I think the overall message portrayed is accurate. I also like how when Yumi is dealing with tough social situations and you want to be mad at someone and just the little things that go through your head when dealing with it, so many situations feel relatable. I think that this drama really gets you feeling that you can relate to these different circumstances and shows the little details that you maybe even never noticed. It shows you the little things that can happen in relationships that you can’t always put into words and how your feelings can change. It really feels like a unique drama even though it is a typical story line of getting into a relationship but it just seems deeper and more intricate.

Although I don’t really like how they did the ending of the first season, I felt the webtoon made it more dramatic and it didn’t seem so weak of a reason for what happened. They didn’t really sell me on the reason that it had to happen but I mean I am excited to see a second season and I hope they can finish the webtoon in that amount of time since there is a part three in the webtoon. I can’t really complain about this drama I really liked it and it seemed really short but that is okay because we know we are getting another season.

I would really recommend this drama if you like a quirky, romantic story.

October Korean/Japanese Drama Reviews 2016 November 15, 2016

moonlight-drawn-by-clouds-official-drama-poster

The first drama that I have finished is Love in the Moonlight/Moonlight Drawn by Clouds. This drama had 18 episodes and was completed on October 18, 2016. This apparently had become a really popular drama and had really good ratings. Honestly I am not sure why it became so popular, this drama kinda reminded me of To The Beautiful You in some ways. It seemed like a typical drama of a girl dressing up like a boy and then falls in love and of course has a rival that supports her. It had more interest with the aspect of the Court as the backdrop and all the politics that go along with that. I found the love story line a bit fluffy and for some reason it didn’t really reach to my heart. I think I would have preferred it more if they stuck with more of the comedy side of the story line instead of bringing in rebellion and death into it. I also think they did not explore more of the funny side of her being a eunuch and the trouble that it could cause and different funny scenarios. I did enjoy about the first 8 episodes but then I just didn’t find it making an impact on me. I am lots of people would disagree with me but I found it to be an okay drama not the best of the year or anything. I also found it hard because Scarlet Heart Ryeo was airing at the same time and I found this drama much more interesting and it was also a historical drama and this could cause some comparison. I found the ending to be okay but it didn’t leave me with a big impression. I did think the actors did a good job with their acting and I did enjoy the crown prince. I expected it to more a lighthearted comedy but was a bit surprised they went to a darker story line with rebellion and things so I mainly liked the first half of the drama. I also think that the moment with the characters fall in love but haven’t realized it, to be the best part of any drama!
picture-2picture-1

The second drama that I finished watching is a Japanese Drama called Please Love Me which is based on a manga which I haven’t read. I haven’t watched many J-dramas because they are harder to find and aren’t subbed very fast. I also find that they do a lot of crime and police dramas which don’t really interest me. I decided to watch this drama because it sounded interesting. It is about a 30-year-old woman who is jobless and has a problem of supporting men because they are good looking. She is easily convinced and therefore she is taken advantage of and has become to be in debt. She meets her ex-boss one day and he decides to help her in exchange she has to work at his cafe which he has newly opened. I have to say after watching a lot of K-dramas I am surprised about how J-dramas are more open about talking about sex when it is almost never mentioned in K-dramas. It is mentioned much more in this drama but nothing is ever shown. I find J-dramas are a bit lacking compared to K-dramas. It may be that they only have ten episodes to tell a story and often the episodes are even shorter. It can a bit more theatrical or cheesy as well but I don’t really mind after a while. I really liked the main leading lady as an actor I thought she did a really good job. This drama kept my interest and enjoyed a lighthearted drama.picture-12picture-11picture-9picture-10moon_lovers-ps-11

I really enjoyed Moon Lovers Scarlet Heart Ryeo. So this drama was one of the most exciting dramas I have watched lately. It had all the elements that I love in a drama.First of all it had fantasy, love triangles, tortured hero,so much mystery and intrigue. Something exciting was happening in every episode. It wasn’t a perfect drama and most particulary the ending was definitely disappointing. There is even a petition online to ask for a second season because they want more because of the unsatisfactory ending https://www.change.org/p/sbs-make-scarlet-heart-ryeo-season-2-possible. Apparently the drama didn’t become as popular as compared to an international success. I loved that there was such a large ensemble cast, it kept everything interesting and it was fun to see everyones relationship with each other. The problems with the ending stem from the fact that it is based on a book and there probably is more of a story that they could tell but just wasn’t sure how to fit everything in. I am not sure if they were thinking that they wanted to do a second season but the ending sure made it seem like they wanted to do more and so maybe they wanted to leave room for a second season. I find that there is rarely a second season in Korean dramas so I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for one. There were some unanswered questions that bothered me.

SPOILER DON’T READ IF YOU HAVEN’T FINISHED THE DRAMA!!

So first of all, things got confusing around the time when Woo-Hee committed suicide, I’m not really sure why she had to chose that option to stop the rebellion.

Second, it kinda bothered me that Hae-Soo didn’t let us see her find out she was pregnant and didn’t let us in on her plans with the baby.

Thirdly, the astronomer meets haesoo in present day and is he from the past? Does he have the memories from the past? I thought the astronomer was the bum she met before the eclipse!

Lastly, I am sad I can’t see what will happen to hae-soo next!!! Overall I think the acting was pretty good in this drama, I felt everyone was sincere in their acting and I was really impressed how every character was memorable and had so much depth. I really enjoyed my time watching this drama, even if you aren’t fond of historical drams I think everyone would find this one interesting.

The third drama that I finished was Hapi Mari a Japanese Drama based off of a manga. This drama aired in summer so it is a bit older but I find that it is harder to find subbed Japanese dramas. I read some of the manga so I was expecting more from this drama and I found it somewhat disappointing. The storyline is that Chiwa has a lot of debt from her father and a stranger offers to marry her and that he will pay her debt. Suprisingly it stars the same male lead as Please Love Me who is Dean Fujioka and it was interesting to watch him in different roles. This drama had a bit of a strange ending and took interesting turns. I didn’t love it like it really didn’t get fleshed out. I still found it entertaining but I don’t think I really felt like I was invested in the characters. It could be because the episodes are shorter or because there are less episodes so they have to fit a lot in a short time frame. It had an interesting concept but it fell a bit flat.

The fourth drama I watched was an another Japanese Drama called Kounodori or Dr. Storks. This is a medical drama which I was always a fan of but this one is even more interesting because it follows ob-gyn doctors as they navigate the waters of pregnancy and births. I have to say that I learned a lot about babies and birth while watching this drama. This was a very well made drama and isn’t that gimmicky or silly. It is based off on the manga with the same title. It is about a doctor Sakura who also happens to be a well known pianist called Baby. I have to say though that the piano playing is a bit silly and doesn’t like very realistic but other than that I think it was a good drama. It follows the route of having new patients every time and emergencies come up and the staff have to also deal with the decisions of the patients. One thing that came up throughout the drama is that pregnancy isn’t a disease but yet doctors need to be involved and everything is unpredictable and sometimes it can be seen as a disease. There isn’t any romance in this drama it is more of a human drama. I wish there was a second season of this drama!picture-18picture-21picture-17

The fifth drama that I watched was Shopping King Louis. This drama stars Seo In-Guk and he plays a rich heir that loses his memory and gets help from a girl from the country that has come to the city to look for her brother. This was a really good drama. I didn’t have much expectations for this drama and I thought that it was going to be really typical and not that much fun. I was wrong this is such a good romantic comedy. I really like that it was funny, the humor was really good in this drama. If you need a lighthearted drama this is a very good one. There are some serious parts to this drama too but I really loved Seo In-Guk in this drama, I wish I had someone like that in my life! lol!! Even the “bad” guys in this drama are not treated as evil instead they are treated like a human that made a mistake. Even the bad guys are pretty funny and humorous. I would say get past the first two episodes and you will be hooked on this drama.picture-6picture-8picture-7

my-wifes-having-an-affair-this-week-05

The drama I am watching now is My Wife’s Having an Affair This Week. This is about a guy who finds his wife’s text message saying that she is meeting up a man at a hotel and he doesn’t know what to do. I have watched a few episodes and you have to get past a couple of episodes to find it more interesting. I found the main guy somewhat whiny and annoying but I have grown to like this drama now and I am interested in how everything will turn out.
romantic-doctor-teacher-kim-04

The second drama is Romantic Doctor, Teacher Kim which is about a doctor who wants to change the privileged hierarchy of the medical system after his father died and he met a wise doctor that encouraged him. He comes back as an adult to the same hospital and meets a female surgeon who he falls for and then loses contact with her. He later meets her in strange circumstances. I have only watched two episodes but I am already hooked on this drama. Again it is a medical drama which you may know by now is my favorite.

sweet-stranger-and-me-01

The third drama I am watching now is Sweet Stranger and Me, which is about a woman who finds out her mother has passed away and her home and land has a young guy as the owner. She tries to find out his secrets and how he has gotten the land. I have to say the few episodes I have watched have been really fun and silly.

The fourth drama I want to watch is The Legend of the Blue Sea. This drama is about a mermaid from the Joseon era surviving in modern day. It also about a con artist. I mean it has mermaids I will be checking this one out for sure! Also it stars Lee Min Ho so I think it will draw a lot of viewers!

weightlifting-fairy-kim-bok-joo-04

The fifth drama I will be watching is Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo. This drama is inspired by the life of real life South Korean Olympic weightlifter gold -medalist Jang Mi Ran. This drama focuses on college athletes who are fighting for their dreams. I think this will be a fun drama to watch!

Did you guys watch any of these dramas? Are you planning to watch any of these upcoming dramas? Any drama you think I should be watching?
